We’ll stay half the time in Minster Lovell and the rest in Malmesbury, ancient market towns with endlessly fascinating places to paint, from winding village streets, mills on the River Avon to lovely gardens and crumbling cathedrals. We’ll wander and visit and paint, paint, paint! Andy brings a visual perspective that will elicit the best of the scenery…and he will help you expand your skills to do the same! He’s also a pleasure to work with, easy and fun to be around and his own work is just beautiful! The villages evoke the past, the scenery is lush and the waterfronts full of visual reminders of stories of millers and fisherman…there is SO much to paint!!
You’ll travel by private coach from Heathrow to our first hotel on Minster Lovell, with a lunch and sketch/rest stop in Oxford along the way. You’ll go by coach to paint in a lovely small town on the River Windrush, Later in the week, you’ll go by coach to our second hotel in Malmesbury. Our day trip that week is optional; an easy public bus or train to Bath for the day! You’ll have plenty of time to sight-see or photo/sketch/paint on your own!
Andy is an accomplished, popular instructor and painter, who loves to teach in England…you are in for a treat! He’s attentive, personable, enthusiastic and full of information to help you capture the sights and the spirit of these great historic locations. There seems to be a never-ending quest to loosen up in watercolor. Painting loose doesn’t just “happen;” it comes from gaining a comfort level with your skills and materials over time. Andy will show you many techniques that can speed this up! You’ll love them, and his skill and patience in showing and explaining them all!
Andy will also discuss value studies, simplifying a scene into larger shapes, editing out the non-essentials no matter what you’re painting. He’ll do at least one demo daily, addressing drawing, skies, trees, buildings, water, and figures. You’ll soon be on your way to great impressionistic watercolors.
Our private coach will pick us up in the early morning at Heathrow on May 3rd. Have your camera and a sketchbook handy for when we stop for lunch! then on to 10 days of wonderful painting and sight-seeing! We will return you to Heathrow on the 23rd in time to meet late day return flights. (If you need help planning flights, we have a great travel agent: Lisa Fitzgerald at Fitzgerald Travel!)
