Only 3 spaces left as of 7-10! Open Air Painting Skills! Marc Hanson OPAM

  • Rockland ME
  • August 27 to 31, 2018
  • Oils Acrylics Pastels
  • all Levels
  • Tuition: $795

We are so pleased to welcome Marc to our program…students here have been suggesting for a while now that we invite him and one look at his work clinched it! He is an extraordinary painter and well respected instructor, not to be missed!
Bring your  oils. pastels or acrylics; Marc works in all three, tho he will demo in oils. You’ll paint outside every day, weather permitting or in our big studio if it doesn’t cooperate!
Since students all come with a different painting history, it’s not possible to asses everyone’s experience and abilities at the start. Marc has
designed his workshops so that it doesn’t matter if you’ve been painting for half of your life, or for half of the last month, each of you will benefit from his exercises which help strengthen your current abilities,  identify those skills that need developing  so you can take your work to a new level!

Mark will work with each of you at your own level at your easel, as well as doing a demo of everything he asks you to do! There will also be plenty of time in the group for deep and thorough discussions of those basic and so essential elements of painting.
You may not go home with paintings that need framing, but you will go home with a
portfolio full of valuable exercises that you can refer back to as you move forward in your own painting process; just come with an inquisitive and open mind, a ready hand and the Art Spirit within you!

Marc teaches landscape painting workshops locally and nationally, is a Master Signature Member of The Oil Painters of America (O.P.A.M.) and has shown his work in galleries and museums nationally and internationally since the early 1980’s.

“I have pursued a career as a painter for many years now. Along the way my methods, materials and focus have evolved. A naturalist at heart, I have found the landscape is the perfect vehicle for expressing the joy I have for the world that surrounds me. My real interest and challenge as a painter is how to best manipulate the core principles of painting into effective visual statements. I’m most successful when I’m able to communicate that joy to the viewers of my paintings. I love working with other painters in their pursuit to better their craft. My goal is not to have them assimilate my style and technique, but to teach them how to more closely examine the subject and apply the principles that representational painters must follow to become effective visual communicators.”

  • You will get a Supply List and more detailed info when you Register, and again about a month before the class.

  • If you will need mediums, let me know and I will have them here for you to buy in class. You are also welcome to ship materials ahead…ask for the address!

  • The first day, the Studio will open early…we will make sure you know the time!Classes usually run M-F, between 8:30-4:30, but the exact hours are at the Instructor’s discretion…never fewer than 6 hours total/day, but sometimes we start earlier or end later…or both!

  • We eat dinner (Dutch) somewhere as a group at least once, usually Monday nite for starters; friends, companions, hosts are welcome to come along.

  • We always have a lunch break, to use or not, it’s up to you…and a lunch plan depending on where we are painting.

  • The Plein Air plan for the day is weather-dependent and usually decided at the end of the previous day if possible, or more likely, each morning!

  • If your class is Plein Air, make sure your Class Monitors know where you have set up, and try to stay close to the demo area. Less running around for them, more time for feedback to you!

  • There is ample free parking at the Studio building, which is within walking distance of downtown.

  • Each class has an experienced Monitor (or two!) as your Go-To person for any problems or needs…please ask…we all will do our absolute best to see that you have a great class experience!
